Besides being clean and peaceful, Praia da Fortaleza (also known as Praia do Forte) is the best place for resting and relaxing in the Island, seeing that most of its houses are summerhouses. There you can take long walks, bathe in the ocean, take a sun-in and enjoy the beautiful nature.
Praia da Fortaleza bars open only during the day. Ilha do Mel nightlife happens far away on Praia do Farol (Lighthouse Beach) guaranteeing quiet nights on Fortaleza Beach. To reach Praia do Farol you have to walk around 50 minutes.
On Praia da Fortaleza Beach you find one of the Paraná Coast most beautiful historical landmarks, Fortaleza de Nossa Senhora dos Prazeres, built between 1767 and 1779 to prevent the Spanish army from invading Paranaguá Harbor - what in fact never happened!
Later on in 1850, the Fort artillery was used to force the British ship Cormorant to leave the Brazilian Coast. The Fort cannons are still preserved. A main attraction to tourists is the anti-aircraft artillery on top of Morro da Baleia (Whale Hill). The view from the top of hill is breathtaking and you can enjoy it from a belvedere affording an extensive view of the Island landscape.
