On Praia das Encantadas (Bewitched Beach) there is a cave where, according to the local fishermen, mermaids lived and used to sing to attract ships sailing along the Island coast. Today, although we know there are no sirens, the cave continues drawing attention: a great number of tourists come to Encantadas cave to visit it and observe its rock formation. It certainly is one of the main attractions in the Island.
There are two wharfs in Ilha do Mel; one of them is located on Encantadas Beach, where Line boats arrive from or leave to Pontal do Paraná each 30 minutes daily. Encantadas beach is 1 km-long and its side facing Pontal do Paraná is washed by calm waters, but if you like to bathe in agitated waters you can go to a beach near the Encantadas cave.
